Effects of Laundry Detergent

by LEO DIGREGORIO on 01/13/15

For a lot of people, the chemicals in laundry detergents can be very harsh on their skin. It can generate skin reactions such as red and scaly skin or even leaving you with an itchy burning feeling. These skin reactions can be in products that are used every day, especially your laundry detergent.

There are many substances in detergent that can trigger an allergic reaction. The following are common chemicals:

·         Phenols This toxic chemical is considered extremely dangerous by the National Health Institute. Because Phenol is easily absorbed, it can have a serious effect on your lungs, kidneys, liver and heart.

·         Fragrance Chemicals in detergent fragrances can cause irritation to eyes and nostrils, trigger asthma and intensify your allergies.

·         Bleach This can cause severe irritation to skin, eyes, throat and nose.

The combination of these chemicals can be very dangerous when they come in contact with your skin. Consider purchasing a hypoallergenic detergent next time to avoid causing an allergic reaction.
